The Manitoba Burrowing Owl Recovery Program is a reintroduction, research, and educational organization that was established in 2010 to address the on-going decline of Burrowing Owls in southwestern Manitoba. The program works in cooperation with the Souris River Watershed District. Since 2010, with cooperation from private landowners, 80 owls have been released back into the wild in southwestern Manitoba. The program also connects with landowners with suitable habitat (open grassland/pastureland) and with permission installs artificial nest burrows which create protected residences for Burrowing Owls returning to southwestern Manitoba.
