The Souris River Watershed District in partnership with the Assiniboine Hills hold the Annual Southwest Manitoba Water Festival in Souris or Elgin, Manitoba. The goal of the Water Festival is “to educate and engage youth in the importance of healthy watersheds”. There are a number of water related activities based on the Grade 5 and 6 curriculums. The Water Festival engages and educates students on water, fish and aquatic ecosystems which gives the students a greater awareness and encourages them to become good stewards of these resources and relay this message to other individuals.
